Wing and A Prayer Nursery began in 2015, when Amy Pulley of Cummington, MA planted seeds of 30 native plant species with a simple but powerful goal: to support our wild pollinators. She raised these organically grown seedlings to maturity, planting many on her own land and sharing the rest with neighbors and local pollinator advocates.

By 2024, the nursery had flourished. Amy was growing nearly 300 native species from seed and supplying pollinator-nourishing plants to home landscapes, schools, libraries, parks, town halls, and other public spaces. Ecologically minded landscapers turned to Wing and A Prayer for restoration projects focused on habitat for some of Massachusetts’ most at-risk pollinators. The nursery also hosted educational classes and nature walks centered on native plants, insects, and habitat creation.

As the nursery expanded, Amy—deeply devoted to its mission but mindful of the physical demands—knew she needed to find a successor who could carry her vision forward. In 2023, she began searching for someone who could become the new keystone of the effort.

Around this time, Elena Zachary joined the story—an experienced landscape designer, Conway School graduate, and delighted lover of plants. Elena contributed her skills to Wing and A Prayer throughout 2023 and 2024 while learning the rhythms and routines of the nursery. Amy—and the nursery’s customers—quickly came to appreciate her fresh energy, steady presence, strong ecological values, and the added gift of her warm, easy smile.

In 2025, Amy and Elena initiated a partial transition that will lead to the nursery continuing under Elena’s guidance. In 2026, Amy will step back into an advisory and supportive role, and Elena will take on full ownership, bringing her own style of thoughtful care while upholding the ecological integrity that defines Wing and A Prayer.

Amy and Elena are excited about this transition, and Wing and A Prayer remains deeply committed to fostering wildlife habitat grounded in native plants. We are grateful to everyone joining us on this next chapter.
